Faking/feigning sleep. Try to think of a few other examples of faking/feigning something.

...And 'feign' is a rather archaic word. The expression that springs to mind is 'he's pretending to be asleep'. Shame really ;-( 'Feign''s such a homely word, and the Latinate 'pretend' is a bit ordinary for my taste! (Irrelevantly, I think 'feign' may have fallen out of use partly because of what philologers call 'homonymic clash' [or in plain English, 'pun'] with the word 'fain' [which is equally, if not more, archaic].)
