Default A short essay on how to become interculturally sensitive

Teachers, can you please take a look at my essay and see if there's anything wrong. Any advice will be appreciated. Thank you.

What should you posses in intercultural communication and how can you learn to be interculturally sensitive?

First of all, you have to be willing to know more about other cultures. That’s how you will become more and more competent and knowledgeable. You need to be patient and tolerant towards people from other countries. You have to try to understand their feelings and thoughts. It’s better to put aside all the stereotypes you’ve heard before because they can really cause misunderstanding and conflict.

And once you’ve decided to take on that journey, you will learn that your culture is not the best in the world and not the oldest as well. You will look at things from different perspective; you will be trying to be more empathic with other people. Because only through seeing things in different perspective you become more sensible and understandable to foreigners and their culture.

One more advice on how to become interculturally sensitive is to try to live in a new culture. That’s the best tool in that respect. You will find out how it feels to be a stranger at first hand. But before making that journey you need to bear in mind all the differences in values, beliefs, behavior patterns that may cause culture shock or something like that. But that’s ok. Having new experience always suggests that you’re going to have some kind of shock. But it will be rewarding. A whole new world full of new and fresh opportunities will open for you.
