Could you please check the last sentence for me? I'm not sure if this expression is correct. Thank you very much!

"While budget travelers may get closer to the local culture, they may not contribute to local economy. This is because some backpackers bargain hard and take advantage of locals on accommodations."

That's actually pretty good. Just put the last word into the singular and it'll be fine.

I can't think of any plural use of the word 'accommodation' - there may be one, but it's not likely. I'd stay with the singular.

I just googled "find accomdations" and got 632,000 hits. Although I don't really trust Google on those things, it did reinforce that I wasn't losing my mind. Sometimes I say something each of two ways a few times and neither ends up sounding right.

Chalk it up to the list of Am/Br English differences.

I find the longer I look at a word, the more it looks wrong.
