WHich is best in this case? the present perfect or past simple?

"I've checked and the right tem to use is "stanza"".

    Thank you

Either one is ok. Use the present perfect if you've recently checked, and the past simple if the action occurred some time further in the past. In AmE, the latter is frequently used in either situation.
