consign the concept to history
Dear all,
In:
within months Stanford was being investigated by the FBI for fraud.
As a result, the two cricket boards cancelled all contracts with him, consigning the Stanford concept to history.
What does this expression mean?
Thanks a lot

When we consign something to history we stop using/doing it, so it literally becomes history (something from the past that is no longer used/done).

PS
I thought this question was going to be about Trotsky. /disappointed
There's an expression in English that actually originates in Russian -- "dustbin of history". That's where things and people figuratively go or are forced to go when they are consigned to history.
