Re: toward its direction, peer out
Hi ovvpapatya
Have you tried looking in a dictionary?
peer - definition of peer by the Free Online Dictionary, Thesaurus and Encyclopedia.
peer 1 (pîr)intr.v. peered, peer·ing, peers 1. To look intently, searchingly, or with difficulty. See Synonyms at gaze.
"toward its direction" - "its" refers to "the landmark"

Re: toward its direction, peer out
Hi ovvpapatya
You "peer out of a window" into the darkness outside or "peer out through the mist or gloom", possibly at a distant object.
Essentially you are straining to look (which is the essence of "peering") at something through (i.e. "out" of) something that tends to hinder your vision.
Hope this helps a bit more
