I was wondering why the preposition ''from'' is used after ''criticism''?

Shouln't it have been ''for'' instead?

Erdogan had widely been expected to win despite criticism from some of his authoritarian style of leadership. link

Here, "from" refers to the people who were criticising him - "some".

Despite criticism / from some people / of his style of leadership.

The criticism of his style of leadership came from some people.

While the sentence is correct, I believe it would have been clearer if it had read "... despite criticism from some for his authoritarian style..." or if from some had been omitted.
