    Default the corner’s yard

The streets behind us had lain abandoned for months.
The couple on the corner’s yard was still chocked with Christmas decorations.

    What exactly does it mean?

    Thanks.

It is the yard belonging to the couple (who lived) on the corner. It's like 'the King of Spain's daughter'. She is the daughter of the King of Spain, not the daughter of Spain.

Context is always important; labelling is rarely important.
