a serious/severe drought
When we took over the garden in 2002 there was a serious/severe drought.
Are both adjectives fine for the sentence? Thank you in advance.

They're both OK. To me, "severe" suggests a worse situation than "serious".

Meteorologists only seem to use severe drought.
