    Default fight a cold war

    Please check the following paragraph. Is it acceptable?

    Since then, I have refused to talk to my dad any more. All my family knew that we were fighting a cold war, but no one could persuade me to make up the relationship with my dad. We came to a deadlock and the family atmosphere was very embarrassing.

    Fighting a cold war sounds a bit strange to me; if you're going to use cold war, why not change the verb?
