    Which is more common expression when you ask about the number of something and

    How are the two sentences different?



    I'm teaching Present Perfect nowadays and I don't really see the

    differences between the two sentences above.

    Hi,

    Maybe adding a time reference will help your students start to see a difference. Both are grammatically correct, as far as I can see, but I would most often use the present perfect in a case like this.

    How many films did Marilyn Monroe make? She's not likely to make any more, as she died some time ago.

    How many films has Meryl Streep made? It is possible that she will continue to make more films.

    Just for info, in BrE you'll hear "How many times have Brazil won the World Cup?"
