You can use either for the first.
'I went to a Paul McCartney concert the other day.'
'I went to the Paul McCartney concert the other day.'
'When I was a child, I went to a Beatles concert.'
If you said, 'when I was a child, I went to the Beatles concert.' You would be giving the impression there was only one.
