Should I use 'a' when talking about a concert I went to? For example,

I went to a (?) Paul McCartney concert the other day.

or

When I was a child, I went to (a? the ?) Beatles concert.

You can use either for the first.

'I went to a Paul McCartney concert the other day.'
'I went to the Paul McCartney concert the other day.'


'When I was a child, I went to a Beatles concert.'

If you said, 'when I was a child, I went to the Beatles concert.' You would be giving the impression there was only one.

We would use "a" in both those examples. If you change the word order, you may see why:

- I went to a concert by Paul McCartney the other day.
- When I was a child, I went to a concert given by The Beatles.
