origin of karaoke
Do you happen to know the origin of "karaoke"?
It's a japanese term, which means "kara= fake" + "oke = orchestra".
As I know, the producer of a Japanese musical performance company for companies' picnics got tired of going to picnics for playing musical instruments in person, so he invented a machine that contains all the musical pieces, which allowed him not to go to such picnics any more.
And he made the English term, "kara(fake)+oke(orchestar)", which means he didn't have to play actual orchestra any more. I wonder if some native speakers know about the origin.
