You give as good as you get
Hello. Could someone explain the meaning of "you give as good as you get" in detail? Thank you.

Re: You give as good as you get
What context did you find it in?
Generally, it means that one delivers the same thing that one receives. This could be referring to numerous things, which is why context is needed.
It could be about a person who is teased by her friends but also does an equal amount of such teasing.

Thank you. I've checked the meaning in the dictionaries, but still wasn't able to understand.
Thank you.

If Sam hits John with a stick, John can hit Sam with a stick. John is giving back what he received.
If I say that you are a dirty, rotten rat, you can say the same about me - you, then, would be giving back what you recieved.
If country A drops two bombs on country B, country B may drop two bombs on country A - country B, then, would be giving as good as it got.
