Dear Committee members:
I am writing in response to your advertisement for the doctoral position in computer science at xxxx.
I was drawn to the ad by my strong interest in both the subject and University. I am highly interested on this position, since I have completed my M.Sc. with specialization in Embedded Systems and my B.Sc. in Computer software Developer program.
My M.Sc. degree project looked at different testing tools and methodology for “Embedded Applications”. The project was conducted under the direction of the company “xxxx”. The project and my current job at xxx, helped me to gain 1 year and 3 months of working experience as Software Engineer and also to improve my social skilling, teamwork, problem solving and etc…
For my further career, I want to pursue a doctoral degree, and I see the current Ph.D. opening at xxx University match with my educational background and my interest in Computer Science and the University and also a way to broaden my knowledge in Embedded Applications as well as Software Systems.
I would like very much to meet with you to discuss you open position for doctoral student in Computer Science. If you require any additional materials or information, I am happy to supply it.

I would re-write it so it could fill one to two A4 / Letter pages, detailing your areas of knowledge, and in particular, an entire paragraph explaining your M.Sc. project(s) in detail, and, in light of this, what direction you would like to choose for your research at the doctoral level, with specifics.
