Getting started on Personal Statement

Hello:

I am trying to write a personal statement that a research application requires me to do... It asks me for an explanation as to why I would like to participate in the research. I have to include courses I have taken and experiences that draw me to the program, and also future plans in terms of graduate/professional work that this program can help me.

I surfed thru the internet for hints on writing a personal statement, but still have no clue of how I should start. Can anyone give me some suggestions or simply give me links for the advices other ppl have?
