Default Another question about motivation letters

Hello,

I want to apply for European Voluntary Service programme and become a volunteer. To do so, I need to write a motivation letter. But I am hesitant about the style of letter. Should it be formal or not? What words it should begin with? I read somewhere that starting with words “Dear Sir/Madam” is not a good idea. So could you guys please help me? Every your advice on writing the motivation letter for this programme will be appreciated!!!

Thank you all in advance!

It's better if you can find a name of the person you're writing to, but if you can't then I don't see what's wrong with 'Dear Sir or Madam'. In a motivational letter, I would follow the conventions of formal writing, but might use more expressive language than normal as you have to try to convey your enthusiasm.

I agree with Tdol - if you know the names of the people to whom you're writing, then use them. Otherwise "Dear Sir or Madam" is the accepted greeting.
