Important! need help correcting my personal statement

Hi,
I am trying to apply for a student exchange program.
I need to write a personal statement – why I want to participate in it.
Here is what I wrote so far (it has to be 1 page max). I hope to find here suggestions for improving it, and corrections if needed.

Dear Sir or Madam

I am writing to apply for the Student Exchange program the (name of Uni) offers.
I am currently a student in my X Semester of studies in the X faculty at the (Uni). In my
studies I am majoring on X. I achieved great performances in the courses I took so far, and my current GPA is X.

Taking part in the Student Exchange program is very important to me. It seems to me like a great opportunity to enrich my academic studies. I am sure that by taking part in the program, I will be exposed to excellent professors, and modern study methods. Furthermore, I am confident that by meeting students from all over the world, who share my interests in engineering and management, I can discover new ideas, and learn how to approach engineering from different perspective.

I am well aware to the challenges I will face as an exchange student, academically and socially. However, I am confident that my great motivation for learning will help me overcome the difficulties of studying in a foreign country. In addition my great will to experience new culture, and make new friendships will help me to make the most of the program.
