Default Abnegation

What’s the meaning of this strange word? I checked it in the dictionary, but it is not defined in simple, simple terms.
Like in this sentence: “Jesus had no self-abnegation and humility when the Pharisees suggested his disciples should wash their hands before eating bread.”
