hinges, fliers & bolts

this man builds fences and forges his own hinges, fliers & bolts. Now, has anyone a clue what a flier (flyer?) is?

Can't think of anything that would fit that man's job description. Wasn't that pliers? Unless he does his own business advertising by distributing fliers ( pamphlets)...?

i still think it must be some small technical bit of a fence.
for, how would you forge advertising fliers? besides, the man works for himself.
