it means:
in the face of adversity, turn something bad into something good
if life gives you something sour turn it sweet
make something positive out of something negative.
So I can say that these writers have a talent, so they know what they are doing?
I don't know because I don't have the whole thing before me. All I know is that there were some restrictions put on these guys and they still managed to come up with a great story. I don't know what restrictions they are talking about.

It means:
If you were born with certain talent or gift, use it!!
If life gave you the talent to write, developing this gift would be the best thing to do.
If you have lemons, it would be silly that you want to make orange juice.. make lemonade.
