Default idiom/expression

I am not sure if I´ve understood it correctly, but other day I heard the expression "poke the bear".

Do you know what it means ?

Thanks.

Poke the bear means to do something provocative or dangerous- if a bear is hibernating, poking him might make him rather angry.

"let sleeping dogs lie"

Another form of the same idea.

Kick a sleeping dog and you just might get bitten.
