Hi,
Can any one tell me the meanning of idiom (i guess it is) 'in the thick of things'.
Regards
Arun
That means you are very involved at the busiest or most active stage of a situation or activity. Eg 'I cannot talk right now -I am in the thick of things'
Not a teacher at all
Hi,
I checked this in WIKI and it says we refer to this phrase when:
It refers to being stuck in the mud as in progress is slow because of encountered obstacles
Is this the same thing as you have mentioned above in your reply.
Regards
Arun
It is usually used the way that Philadelphia explained it. To be in the thick of things is to be in the middle of some action. Imagine a busy restaurant. The waiter is running back and forth - taking orders and giving these orders to the cook. The waiter is in the thick of things. You may want to change your reference source, as the WIKI you cited does not seem to understand this term.
I agree that it doesn't imply slow progress- it is being at the heart of the action.
