Hi! My name is Kristen and i need some help on my homework on idioms. Okay, I was wondering do you know the origin of the idiom, "A fair-weathered friend"? If you do write back! Thanks :D

The expression is a fair weather friend, and I don't know its origin, but I think it is quite old. Red or Tdol will probably be along after a while and post a link to a website which will tell you all about it.

It means that when times are good, you will have plenty of friends.

But when you are in trouble, (storm clouds hovering overhead) your friends will disappear.

hence "fair weather" friends.
