What does "hold audience with oneself" mean? I came across an English phrase "to hold audience with oneself", which I failed to find the definition in all the dictionaries available, Could anybody tell me what it means? Thank you very much!

Teacher Re: What does "hold audience with oneself" mean? When monarch and important people receive visitors, they give them an audience, so presumably this person is doing it alone.
