idioms to describe haughty and arrogant person
Hi everyone,
There are some idioms which describe haughty and arrogant person:
To put on/ give oneself airs
To be/ get too big for one’s boots
To be/ get too big for one’s britches
To get a swelled head
To have one’s nose in the air
Do you use them?
Or do you know another idiom with the same meaning?
Many Thanks to everyone!

She/He's full of her/himself.
I don't usually hear or use the above with the exception of "nose in the air".
This is actually used more as a gesture where I'm from.
I generally use stuck up or something a touch more vulgar.

Someone who thinks the sun shines out their ass or someone who thinks their sh*t don't stink (we usually use the incorrect grammar to make the phrase a bit more "earthy" and colloquial)
The second phrase is conveniently the chorus of this song (hushed up on MTV to protect delicate American sensibilities... also, he doesn't call her a "witch" on the album version either): YouTube - Outkast-Roses Official Music Video The chorus starts at 1:54

Agree on "vulgar"^^
If I had to be "polite", I'd use stuck up. Otherwise whatever I say would involve swearing.
ex. she's a stuck-up b*tch
he's an arrogant pr*ck
I hope I didn't offend anyone's sensibilities here...

Well since it's after the watershed, if I'm feeling particularly wordy I'll say that someone is "up his own a** with a stepladder."

Brilliant! I'll have to use this as soon as possible in a conversation!

If you have "your head up your ass", you're very self-absorbed, pompous, full of yourself.
If you're so far up your ass as to need a stepladder, then you're really pompous and self important.

That's new to me! Stepladder eh?
Actually so is "after the watershed"
Navel gazing (it refers to one's own navel) also refers to someone that is self-absorbed. Apparently term isn't always negative but I've never heard it used in a non-negative way.
