looking for an expression denoting extreme disappointment
Hello, all.
I am wondering if there is an English expression about something starting out really promising, but ending in an entirely disappointing fashion. The TV show "Lost" would be a good example of what I am trying to say.
Thanks.

"Well, that wasn't all it was cracked up to be!"
"Well, that turned out to be a damp squib!"
"That promised more than it delivered."

Re: looking for an expression denoting extreme disappointment
I heard another one yesterday: come in with a bang, go out with a whimper.
Still, none of these are forceful enough to express what I want to say.
