My heart is black with sorrow

Now my problem is that I can't find out the meaning of this idiom from the context. From the context it could mean maybe "i'm sad", "i feel sympathy", "i'm guilty" or "i'm sorry"... It seems to be a rare idiom.. Google doesn't give too many results..

I'd say it means 'extremely sad'. It could be guilt, but not necessarily- it could equally be grief.
