Default what's cooking

hi...i'm not good in english...

i just want to know, what does my friend means when he asked me "what's cooking?" does it a kind of idioms or slang or what?

am sorry pelajar i never heard of that phrase but i think cooking it comefrom the verb cook

Your friend is asking you what you are doing at this moment in time, or he may be asking in a general sense if there is anything interesting happening.
