i just want to know, what does my friend means when he asked me "what's cooking?" does it a kind of idioms or slang or what?

am sorry pelajar i never heard of that phrase but i think cooking it comefrom the verb cook

"What's cooking?" is a colloquialism for "what's going on?" or "what do you have planned for the day?" (depending upon the context).

whats cooking = whats happening.
for example when you habe subject in school and you don't understand this subect you say : what's cooking i understand nothing in this subject :)

It is much more likely to be used between friends to find out what is going on [ A meets B, who is on the way to a bus: "Hey, xxxx, what's cooking? anthing I might like?" "Well, maybe. A bunch of us are going to the mall to hang out for a while, maybe have a latte or two. Come along if you like."]
