I'm searching for the meaning of the expression: 'if you took it like Christmas'. Context: a disappointed woman says that she "woke up pretty soon to what marriage meant, if you took it like Christmas." Thanks! Marcel

Christmas day is filled with gifts, great food, and loads of relatives. It's a joyous occasion, much like a wedding. It's "a" day, one day, and after that, well, there's 3 million more days without gifts, great food, and the relatives come to visit only once in a while, or they stay, and live with you!

Thank you Casiopea, for your reply. So, how would you paraphrase 'if you took it like Christmas' with other words in this context? Thanks again, Marcel

Sans additional context, Marcel, I'm not 100% sure. RE: "a disappointed woman says that she "woke up pretty soon to what marriage meant, if you took it like Christmas."
