Default Re: Stab the old bat with a knitting needle

"Old bat" can also be used as an amusing term of endearment among close friends. My late husband often used to say, "Can I make you a coffee, you old bat?"

When I 'phone one of my girlfriends she usually says, "What do you want, you old bat?"

Mothers-in-law are often called "old bats" but the speaker doesn't really mean it in an unkind way.
