'Once in a blue moon' - rarely

'He used to see his cousins every Sunday, but now he only sees them once in a blue moon.'

(The Internet is full of definitions of 'blue moon'. Try Google. Many people use 'once in a blue moon' without knowing the precise definition.)

catch somebody red-handed=find somebody while they are doing something wrong, commiting a crime, etc

eg The thief was caught red-handed as she was emptying the till.
