Is this phrase suppose to be rude and full of sarcasm?

"...only because you asked so nicely"


Usage seen in here:
"I'll answer your question only because you asked so nicely." or
"I'll fulfill your requestion only because you asked so nicely."

Sarcasm can be something mean said in a nice way, or something nice said in a mean way. It is impossible to know if a single utterance is sarcastic without knowing the context.

For instance, if I said that George W. Bush is a thoughtful, sincere, honest, and intelligent human being, you don't know if I'm being sarcastic, or if I'm just plain stupid (but sincere).

Actually, it depends upon what this is in response to.

If someone said, "Can you please loan me a pencil, if you don't mind?"
and you answered "Of course, but only because you asked so nicely" is not really sarcasm, but just a somewhat humorous response. You're playfully letting the person know that if they hadn't been polite, you might not have complied with the request.

If someone said, "Hey, fatso! If you can pull your greasy fingers out of that bag of potato chips for one minute, would you waddle over to the supply room and get me a pencil?"
In that case, if you replied, "Of course, but only because you asked so nicely," that would definitely be an example of sarcasm.
