I'm not familiar with this saying, but if "face" is intended to be taken literally, here is one idea you might want to develop:
A person's face can tell much about that person in terms of character, honesty, integrity, etc. The face makes up a large part of our first impression of a person.

As far as I know, this phrase started as a commentary about actresses, models, and even actors. It refers to beautiful or handsome faces allowing people to make a lot of money in a number of fields.

A little. The beautiful face is usually on the other side of the camera.

For example, actor Leonardo DiCaprio (of Titanic fame) was hit over the head with a beer bottle at a party last year. His first reaction was not "Is my skull fractured? Should I go to the hospital?" It was "Will this leave a scar? If so, can plastic surgery fix it? After all, my face is my fortune!"

well L DiCaprio doesn't look like a smart person to me. and he made his fortune with his face indeed and lucky him that he's got talent...

Re: english saying
Not necessarily that beauty is involved.
Your honesty will shine through if you have an open face, and honesty is a valued commodity as well as beauty.
