Wow, if someone should have said that to me I would have thought he meant that I had neglected to give a compliment to someone.
If I understood well; the guy had done the best he could and thought that he was going to get rewarded for it by at least a compliment from e.g. his boss.
Then another person who was aware of the situation said "Boy u aren’t big on compliments are u" turning the knife in the wound.
Not a nice saying if you ask me
