| If you are arranging to meet or see someone, and maybe are not sure if you or the other person can definitely make the meeting, then you write the date in pencil in your diary so that it can be deleted if necessary,. So you "pencil it in". It indicates an intention to have a meeting but willingness to change date/time if required. |
