If someone stares very angrily at someone we 'If looks could kill', meaning that the person is very angry.

Normally, I hear "If looks could kill." It means If looks could kill, you would be dead (based on the way someone was looking at you).

John got home at 3 a.m. drunk. His wife was unhappy.

Bill asks John how his wife reacted. John says "If looks could kill."
