What is the difference between an idiom and a cliché?
(Also, am I using the correct é?) ...and, is that question off-topic?
A cliché is a phrase that has been overused and lost its impact; I'd say that 'at the end of the day' in one nowadays. It has a negative connotation that idiom does not.
It is the correct e and I can't see why the question is off-topic.![]()
Considering the number of missing or gratuitous apostrophes I see on signage all over town, on words that are really French and words that only think they are...I don't think that question is off-topic at all. :)
I think sometimes an idiom can be a cliché as in "this is the last straw" but also sometimes different people will find a phrase cliché and others will not. I think its a matter of personal taste.
