Question Beat to the sound of his own drum?

I'm trying to find the exact saying that is something like "He marches (walks/dances?) to the sound of his own drum" meaning that one does his own thing despite what everyone else may be doing. Can anyone help me find the exact phrase? I'm also looking for any other phrase that means the same thing. Something that describes someone who stands up to the norm and does what they believe regardless of what others may think or say. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I think the common usage of this idiom is "marches to the beat of a different drummer"
