Reminds me of one of the scenes with Rose, in The Golden Girls, telling the St. Olaf story of the wife who chopped off her husband's head and dismembered the body.
The woman pleaded extenuating circumstances and fought the charges. Says Rose: "Legal fees alone cost her an arm and a leg."

The outcome was, she received a suspended sentence.
Gasps of incredulity from the others: "You mean, she got off?"
"NO! She was hanged."
