    Default with or without "a"

    Hi

I'm living in Britain and I've heard people say "without question" or "without questions" but no one (well, so far) seems to say "without a question" (same with the word "payment"). Is there a good reason behind this or is it just something we need to get used to?

    Thanks!

As far as I'm concerned that's a fixed expression
