| PS I've seen 'holiidays' spelt like that*, but I've also seen it spelt Holy Days and I usually hear it pronounced with a long O. It's an abbreviation (for some) of 'Holy Days of Obligation' - like Ascension Day or Christmas Day - when Roman Catholics are (or were - I've lost track of the rules) required to go to Mass. b PS *I had to leave that typo; only a killjoy would have put it right.
