| At a crime scene it is standard procedure to "dust" for any fingerprints the perpetrator may have left behind. Fingerprints are usually invisible to the naked eye, so the investigator use a special powder that reveals any prints present. Once the prints are revealed, they are "lifted" - a piece of clear tape is placed over each one, causing the powdery print sticks to the tape. That tape is then adhered to a white card which is taken back to the laboratory for analysis. |
