Default crop up (sentences)

"These damn tapes keep cropping all over the place, they were playing this in the alcove."

This line is from the movie Pump up the volume. I was wondering if "crop up" reads well in my sentences.

1. When she fell in the water sharks cropped up.
2. When Andre Agassi got outta the limo lots of girls cropped up screaming.
3. More drug users are cropping up day after day.
4. The match was abandoned as a fan cropped up on the field.

I use this phrasal verb mostly in the sense of appearing occasionally (i.e. from time to time, like in 'her name keeps cropping up in conversation'). But also in the sense of appearing unexpectedly, in ex. "address issues as they crop up".

Theoretically, your sentences sound OK to me.

Re:

The third one best fits the way the phrase is generally used. (Things appear as if from nowhere when the speaker is not around.) The others don't feel right to me.

Note:
The phrase "1 phrasal verbs" should be "one phrasal verb".
