 break with Is the meaning of the following sentences similar? a. He tried to break with convention. b. He tried to break away from convention. c. He tried to get rid of convention. Thanks a lot! |

| Re: break with 1- He tried to act in a way different from the the conventional manner. 2- It sounds a bit unnatural to me, but I would interpret it as a bigger break than the first; maybe he tried to leave all convention behind him. 3- The first is a personal choice; it doesn't necessarily mean that he tried to affect the way others behave. This sentence sounds as if he wanted everybody to stop following convention. mayclaire likes this. |
