had it been "how does a child do that"than it would have been right sentence otherwise "what does......do" is also right.

Yes, that's a correct sentence.
But I wouldn't call that a correction of the sentence since it means a completely different thing. It's been changed to a different question. But that's the probably the answer.

Teacher: "what does ... do that" is incorrect.
If you've heard something that a child can do and would like to know how it does that, then you ask "how does a child do that?"
"what does a child do?" means you want to know what it does. :up:
