"I know that nouns describe people places and object"
Actually it's more like adjectives describe people, places or objects, whereas most nouns ARE people, places or objects.

1. The new film directed by Ridley Scott showing at the Odeon is Gladiator. - 3 (is film also a noun)

Yes, "film" is a noun too. So: 4 nouns

2. The sun was shining brightly yesterday - 1 (is yesterday a noun)

that sentence is correct. "yesterday" is not a noun, it's an adverb.

3. The sun is shining brightly over Leeds not Wakefield - 3

Correct.

4. My name is Mark but you can call me MJ - 2 (but not sure about mj)

"name" is a noun too. And MJ is a person's name, so it's a noun too. 3 nouns then.

5. The furry feline quadrupted reclined upon the floor covering - 2 'Feline' here is used as an adjective. (The word can also be a noun, if it is used as a noun? eg He bought a feline.)

It's "quadruped" without the "t". Apart from that, it's correct. There are two nouns: quadruped and floor covering(which is one term).

6. The bird perched on the branch of the tree singing ths beautiful song - 3

"song" is a noun too, so there are 4.

7. The beautiful picture in the gold frame hangs on the wall in the kitchen - 4

Almost correct. But technically "gold frame" goes together as a noun. Otherwise it ought to be "golden" frame. "Golden" would be an adjective then.

8. Although Osaka is big. Tokyo is, in fact, the largest city in Japan - 4

Correct, you just forgot to mark "city" and "Japan".

9. The students in the class listened carefully to the teacher. - 3

10.I have 3000 CD's. 300 MD's and 150 DVD's in my collection in my house. - 4 (is collection a noun)

Yes, collection is a noun.

I MARKED EVERYTHING THAT IS A NOUN AND THAT YOU DIDN'T MARK AS ONE RED
