hi,
I'm intending to take up a CELTA course. I have gotten a pre interview task and in some questions im finding difficulty. So plz help me out by giving me correct answers with rules. I'm also giving some answers plz correct them if u think they are in correct. Thanks.
Q1: Underline the syllables which takes the main stress.
momentous, bystander, superb, independent, undeniable, reliable, computer, burger, photographic, photograph, photographer, ratio.
Q2: Diff b/w the following terms:
1)Alone: a physical condition of being alone... she was sitting alone in the garden
Lonely: an emotional condition or feeling... She was feeling lonely in the party because of the absence of her friend.
2)Win: You win the game/contest/match
Beat: you beat your opponent and it is always followed by an object.
3)Go back: means away from a speaker towards your previous location
Come back: towards the speaker, means where u were before.
Q3: Structures:
1)By this time next year, I will have finished college.
By this time next year, I will be finishing college.
2) I've been busy all morning. I've painted the porch.

]The course providers want to know what you know, not what we know.
They may well expect you to research these questions, but that does not mean asking other people.

you are absolutely right but I'm asking to help me out in this regard, as I do not know much about Stress thing. .. I have seen threads in which trainers have answered the questions, thts why I have put up all these things.

I googled 'word stress', and found several helpful sites in the first ten that came up.

Thanks I ve found some useful things but still Im not sure whether I ve done it correctly or not. Anyway now waiting for an interview

1. Only one stress on one word.
2. Only vowels can be stressed.
Try to say the word out loud, as it might make it easier to locate the stressed vowel in the word.
The stress is on the part where you emphasise a bit on the word.
Momeeentous, Byyyyystander, Supeeeerb, Indepeeendent, Unden(iiii)able, Compuuuuter, Buuuurger.
I guess you get the point.
I know the question was asked since 2011, but it could probably help someone who stumbles across it.
