I need help with my CELTA pre-interview task.

Hi, all!

I'm applying for Cambridge CELTA and I need some help with my pre-interview task. I don't want to just post the questions and expect others to answer them for me. Grammatically I know the answers; I just need help with how they would be explained to learners of English,
e.g.

How would you explain the difference between the words THIN and SKINNY?

Nearly all the questions are like this, i.e. asking to explain the differences between sentences and words, or asking to explain the correction to mixed tense sentences such as "Sorry I can't meet you today. I'll go to the cinema."

If anyone can give me some tips or advice, I would be extremely greatful, and I'm sure they would be rewarded in later life.

How would you explain the difference between the words THIN and SKINNY?
Slim/thin/skinny have different meanings in terms of degree- if someone's underweight or losing weight through illness, you don't call them slim. Slim is positive, but skinny is negative in connotation. Which is thinner: thin or skinny?

We don't use 'I'll go to the cinema' when we have already made the plans or arrangements. We use it when, among other cases, we decide now:
'What do you want to drink'
'Uhhh... I'll have a white wine.'

"Thin" can be used for many other things; such as soup, paper and margin of victory.

The pre-interview task is interesting to do and it gets you thinking about sort of question you'll be asked in an English teaching context. But don't get your hopes up about getting much feedback from your course instructors. Mine just asked 'Has anyone done it?', and several of the class hadn't.

PS - Incidentally, if you use Firefox you can easily avoid slips like "greatful", as the browser highlights typos.
