What does "tie" mean in the following context?

My favorite spot in the natural world, out of all the places I've been, is a tie between the Greek island Santorini (Plato's Atlantis) and my favorite perch on a hill overlooking the beautiful blue Pacific Ocean on the southwest corner of Maui. I'm convinced both locations have healing power.

Yes. I know that meaning of "tie" (the equality in score), but I'm not sure why the author uses the word in the context.
Is the sentence just saying "my favorite spots are the island Santorini and my favorite perch on a hill..."? Is it saying the two places are equally beautiful? Is this what the word "tie" means here?

Yes. If there was a contest between all the places the author has as "favorites," the contest would end in a tie. The two are equally his favorites and he can not choose one over the other.

Yes. If it were a competition between those two places, he would not be able to pick a winner. It would be a tie.
